A polar crane operates on a circular runway in a round building,
normally without a center bearing or guides other than the circular
runway rail. Ederer has a long history of success with polar cranes,
achieving smooth running and circular tracking without the need for
guide rollers or other auxiliary equipment.
Ederer has installations of polar bridge cranes in both nuclear and
non-nuclear facilities, in capacities that range from 4 tons to 400
tons, and with construction capacities as high as 750 tons. Most of our
polar crane installations also provide enhanced safety for the hoisting
equipment through use of Ederer's patented X-SAMŽ (eXtra Safety And Monitoring) hoist safety system.
Ederer has extended this experience with polar cranes, and with
revolving boom cranes, to design of special rotating machinery, such as
revolving restaurants, rotating steel walls, and our "Torus" circular
runway crane design. In each instance our crane-related experience has
been an asset towards success in these and other special applications.
