Seascale, Cumbria, United Kingdom (February 8, 2013) – PaR Systems Ltd. is pleased to announce that they have been awarded a contract by the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) to provide a replacement manipulator, mast, and carriage system for the Windscale Active Handling Facility, located at the Sellafield Nuclear Licensed Site in Cumbria.
The Windscale Active Handling Facility has been operating as a Post Irradiation Examination (PIE) facility for over forty years, and is considered key to the current and future work at Sellafield and the UK nuclear industry.
PaR Systems will be supplying a Model 3000 manipulator which is a proven system operating at many sites across the world, including 12 systems on the Sellafield site.
Ms. Sian Beaty, Business Development Director of PaR Systems Ltd. commented, "PaR Systems is recognized for its proven, reliable technology, and as importantly, long term support to the client. So we are delighted that NNL has selected us to support them in such a strategically important project."
"NNL has operated a PaR system for over 20 years, which has given reliable service in a challenging environment. When the decision was made to refurbish the facility to be operational for another 25 years, replacement of the present manipulator system was identified as key to future operations, and a market appreciation was carried out to ensure that a fit for purpose, equally reliable replacement was found. The PaR 3000 fitted the criteria and PaR as an organization was identified as having the requisite nuclear pedigree in providing and supporting this type of equipment over extended timescales. NNL is happy to be in contract with PaR, and looks forward to the delivery of their new system to time and cost," stated Phil Gerrard, Senior Project Manager, B13-Active Handling Facility.
The National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) plays a key role in the UK and global nuclear industry, and is the only UK organization with the skills, facilities, and expertise to provide technical support to all aspects of the nuclear industry. Since July 2008, NNL has provided independent advice to the UK government, and works with other national laboratories around the world to deliver a full range of research and technology to support the nuclear fuel cycle.
