PAR Systems and Enabled Engineering Partner to Advance SolidStir™ Friction-Stir Deposition Technology
Shoreview, MN — September 29, 2026 — PAR Systems and Enabled Engineering announced an exclusive license and partnership agreement focused on advancing and commercializing Enabled Engineering’s SolidStir™ technology, an emerging solid-state additive manufacturing process based on friction-stir welding principles.
SolidStir™ enables metal additive manufacturing and extrusion without melting the base material. The technology uses frictional heat and mechanical stirring to produce consolidated metal deposits and extrusions, creating opportunities for high-performance manufacturing across Aerospace, Automotive, Energy, Industrial, and other demanding applications. Under the agreement, PAR Systems will work with Enabled Engineering to support the continued development, integration, and deployment of SolidStir™ technology for industrial applications.
“PAR Systems is excited to recognize this formal agreement with Enabled Engineering and to work together to advance the potential of SolidStir™ technology,” said Karla Leis, President and CEO for PAR Systems. “We see promising opportunities, particularly in applications where solid-state deposition could offer an alternative to traditional castings and forgings. We look forward to working with industry partners to further mature the technology and identify applications where it can deliver meaningful value.”
The team is excited to demonstrate how SolidStir™ supports future applications involving the recovery and reuse of metal feedstock, including metal chips and recycled scrap. These possibilities could contribute to improved material utilization and more sustainable manufacturing practices as the technology continues to mature. Enabled Engineering identifies upcycling metal chips, recycled feedstock, and circular-economy applications among the technology’s potential uses.
Dr. Kumar Kandasamy, Founder and CEO of Enabled Engineering, said “We are eager to advance and commercialize SolidStir™ in partnership with PAR Systems. In addition to near-term additive manufacturing and extrusion applications for the Department of War and industry, we are excited to address large-scale aluminum recycling using our SolidStir™ technology. Our process is feedstock agnostic, with the ability to utilize rods, cut-up parts, chips, and powder. Applying this technology to reuse the vast quantities of aluminum scrap in the US is very intriguing.”
Mr. David Dress, Director of Business Development at Enabled Engineering, said “The flexibility of scaling SolidStir™ systems offers a huge potential, including building large components in ‘purpose built’ custom machines as well as scaling down for retrofitting milling machines and robotic arms. In addition, our SolidStir™ technology has been demonstrated for novel solid-state material development using our unique feed port options.”
The partnership combines Enabled Engineering’s SolidStir™ technology with PAR Systems’ experience in advanced manufacturing systems, automation, controls, machine design, and friction-stir processing, including the well-established I-STIR technologies. PAR Systems develops and supports custom manufacturing systems for high-value components and challenging industrial environments.
