PAR Systems, Inc. Recognized for Bold Efforts

February 27, 2013

Saint Paul/Minneapolis, Minnesota (February 27, 2013) – PAR Systems, Inc., a world leader in material handling, automation, and robotics solutions since 1961, was honored last evening as the Corporate Middle Market category winner in the BOLD Awards, hosted by the Association for Corporate Growth Minnesota (ACG MN).

This first annual competition recognizes the bold and daring strategies to grow Minnesota, and the leaders and teams that make them happen. Nominees, finalists, and winners were recognized Tuesday night for their imagination, innovation and extraordinary efforts to grow Minnesota.

PAR Systems is being recognized for taking on a truly bold and significant global project that will implement a new sophisticated technology to resolve the aftermath of a world disaster. On April 26, 1986, the world experienced the worst nuclear accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Although a temporary confinement building was constructed over the site, risk of its collapse increases over time which would release radioactive dust and debris. Twenty-six years later a New Confinement Structure (NSC) is being erected for dismantling the site.

In early 2011, PAR Systems started work on the design of a unique Main Cranes System (MCS) that will be mounted within the NSC which is approximately 250 meters (820 feet) wide, 150 meters (492 feet) long, and 100 meters (328 feet) tall. The extraordinary size of the MCS components alone makes the system first-of-a-kind.

PAR Systems was selected for the Chernobyl project to build this mission critical first-of-a-kind system because of the company’s track record in innovation, and capability to design and deliver reliable systems for challenging environments. PAR’s use of the Tensile Truss technology is the first time it will be deployed in a high-radiation environment. The innovative design will be utilized to decommission the Chernobyl site for decades, and variations of the design will be implemented in other global projects such as Fukushima Daiichi.
