Saint Paul/Minneapolis, MN – February 19, 2009 – PAR Systems, Inc. announces they have been awarded the Robotic Manipulator and Grippers (RMG) subcontract by Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC for the design and fabrication of robotic equipment for automating the material handling inside of the Pit Disassembly and Conversion Facility (PDCF) glove boxes.
The PDCF RMG system will be the first large-scale automated process line contained within a glove box environment at any of the Department of Energy (DOE) complex production sites. In Phase 1 of the contract, PaR Systems will design, supply and test a Developmental RMG System that will become the proof-of-principle design for automating 18 glove box process steps and the basis for the Production Systems. The expected benefits of the RMG system includes improved process quality and productivity through consistent automated operations, improved ALARA compliance and safety by reducing operator contact with process containers and equipment, reducing operator radiation exposure, and enhanced safeguards by reducing operator contact with special nuclear materials. Phase 2 will include producing and installing 18 Production Glove Box Systems.
